Theda Ferrice Sanford Obituary

Rainelle - Theda Ferrice Sanford, 104 of Rainelle, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her home on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

She was born on February 11, 1921, at Lawn, West Virginia to the late Barbara Ellen Surbaugh.

Theda was a homemaker. She loved crocheting, making quilts, and canning her own food. She was a seamstress for neighbors and friends. Above all she was the greatest mother her children could have asked for. Theda worked hard and instilled that ethic in her children. She made her own money selling homemade butter, milk, and eggs.

In addition to her parents, Theda was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Elmer Homer Sanford; daughter Gaile Bowles, and son Eugene Sanford.

Those left to cherish her love, and memories are her daughters Theda Delores Carroll, Barbara Tigg; sons Roger (Brenda) Sanford and Ronald Sanford; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Patricia Sanford.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Monday, September 8, 2025, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle with pastor Benny Kenny officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the time of the service. Internment will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Smathers Funeral Chapel is honored to care for Theda and her family during their great time of need.
