Ruth Epperly Yost
October 11, 2019 Ruth Epperly Yost, 72, of Cool Ridge can breathe freely now, as she joins friends and family in her heavenly home. She was born January 20, 1947, to the late Ralph and Lola Morgan Epperly. RuthE met and married the love of her life on June 28, 1969.
Adored wife of Roger F Yost, RuthE had many gifts, among them being the ability to show kindness and generosity to everyone, no matter what. She talked to strangers as if they were long lost friends. Her hugs were strong and full of love.
RuthE and Roger spent most of their 50 years of marriage in Cool Ridge where they built a beautiful home and worked hard, as they did everything else...together. She was a dedicated, loyal employee for the State of WV, first for Vocational Rehab, then retiring from WV Job service after more than 35 years.
After retirement, she fulfilled her desire to help others and to be around people as a substitute in Raleigh Co Schools and the School Board Office where she continued to make lasting friendships. Ruth looked forward to summer vacation during the week of Fourth of July each year to relax and "chill" with family. Her favorite place was ocean front on her beloved Surf City, Topsail Island.
RuthE was the true Matriarch of the Ralph Epperly family, taking precious time to send cards, letters, Christmas updates complete with pictures and the stories of the previous year. She was also the one that insisted on family photos and the snapshots of every occasion so she could file them in albums for everyone to enjoy when they visited. Shopping, Dr. Mario and navigating the computer were some of her favorite pastimes. Whether it was planning for and attending a class reunion, hosting Thanksgiving, family reunions or a gathering at work, RuthE looked forward to a good party. She was a member of Perry Memorial United Methodist Church, Shady Spring.
RuthE was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Phyllis Jean Helm, 2 nephews, Timothy Pollitt and Kevin Helm, and her brother in law, Herb Norman.
Left to preserve and treasure her memory, in addition to her soulmate, Roger, includes 2 brothers, Mason (Glenda) Epperly, Cool Ridge, Donald (Nancy) Epperly, Buchanan, VA, 2 sisters, Anna (Dave) Pollitt, Charleston, WV, and Ralphetta (Mike) Bailey, Greenville, SC, a brother in law, Jerry (Jean) Helm, and a loving sister in law, Wanda Yost Norman, Crab Orchard, WV. Ten nieces and nephews (Kenyon, Donnie J, Lesley, Chad, Christopher, Lisa, Robbie, Scottie, Don and Phil) and their families, 12 great nieces and nephews and their families, many sweet, sweet cousins, all her coworkers, Shady Spring High School class of 1965 classmates, and all who met her. Ruth's heart and arms were always open.
Celebration of Ruth's life will be conducted at Sophia United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 11 AM with Danny Quirin, Pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Fincastle, VA, officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Shady Spring, and also one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Donald Norman, Philip Norman, Don Epperly, Chad Epperly, Christopher Pollitt, Rob Bailey and Scott Bailey will serve their Aunt Ruth as Pallbearers. Private online condolences and other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family via our guestbook at In lieu of flowers, a love offering in Ruth Yost's name can be sent to Sophia United Methodist Church, PO Box 518, Sophia, WV 25921.
