Sophia - Michael Lee Ray, age 73, of Sophia, WV, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division, following complications from surgery.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include one brother Jesse Ray (Sondra) of Sophia, four sisters, Martha Bevins and Rea Ann Shultz of Sophia, Carol Williams (Terrence) of Illinois,Naomi Causey of Florida. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also remain.

Born on August 16, 1952 in Beckley, WV, he was the adopted son of the late Emmit Estil Ray and Nellie Marie Ray. Birth parents were Thurmond and Margaret Ray.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Ray, brothers Fred Ray, Frank Ray, Tom Ray, and Joe Ray. Sisters include Madeline Calvert, Lucille Lambert, Jean Coe, and Charlotte Heyman.

Michael's hobbies included white water rafting with his special nephew David Ray, antiquing, and flea marketing.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral home in Beckley, WV, to Celebrate the Life of Michael Lee Ray on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 1 PM with Pastor Ardeth Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Slab Fork Cemetery at Tams Mountain. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
