Lola Coiner Shelton

Lola Coiner Shelton, 91, of Alderson, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025 of congestive heart failure at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg..
She was born November 5, 1932 at Pence Springs, WV, a daughter of the late John and Gladys Dodd Coiner.
Lola was a graduate of Talcott High School Class of 1951. After graduation, she attended Capitol City Commercial College in Charleston and was a graduate of McMillan Hospital School of Radiologic Technologists and was an employee of McMillan Hospital-CAMC Division in Charleston, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte and retired in 1997 from the Federal Prison Camp in Alderson.
In 1959 she married the love of her life, Melvin Shelton, a marriage that lasted 56 years. She was also a member of Pence Springs Community Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Ray Shelton in 2016; two brothers, John and Ronald Coiner and a sister, Betty Wright.
She is survived by a son, John Shelton & wife Amy of Green Bank, WV, a daughter, Melissa Scott of Winchester, Virginia, and her beloved granddaughter, Ella Scott also of Winchester, Virginia.
She wishes to thank her daughter-in-law, Amy Shelton for the loving care she gave both her and Melvin during their illnesses.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Pence Springs Community Church, with Pastor Sam Groves and Pastor Roger Persinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Pence Springs.
A visitation will be 12:00 pm until time of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
