Ernest Ross Spencer Obituary

Silver Spring, MD - Ernest Ross Spencer, 76, of Silver Spring, Maryland, formerly of Crab Orchard, WV, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, after a long illness. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee Spencer (known as Bill) and Joycelin Ross Spencer née Stover, and a daughter, Traci Schattle.


He is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Michael (Mary), and his grandson Andrew. He is also survived by his brother David (Lanell).


Ernie graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the U.S. Army, having fought in the Vietnam War. He did road construction work for Acme Construction Company and Dean Construction Company, worked for the Veteran's Administration in food services and housekeeping, and drove the bookmobile for the Raleigh County Library.


In his youth, Ernie was an accomplished baseball and basketball player and had wonderful memories growing up in East Beckley and spending time on his Aunt Ella's farm in Prosperity, WV. As an adult, Ernie enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards. He had a great love for his family.


Ernie will have a graveside service for family and friends at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, WV, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11 AM.
