Ernest Ralph Perdue
March 17, 1943 - April 21, 2025
Ernest Ralph Perdue, 82, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on April 21, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. Born on March 17, 1943, in Harwood, WV, Ernest, affectionately known as "Ernie," lived a life full of dedication, service, and love.
Ernie proudly served in the US Army from February 1962 until his discharge in August 1965. During his service, he was part of the Honor Guard Company C and served with the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart in Georgia and in Augsburg, Germany. After his military service, Ernie dedicated 45 years to the State Electric Supply Company, retiring on June 27, 2019.
Ernie was an active member of his community, serving on the Oak Hill Police Commission for several years, where he played a significant role in hiring new recruits. In his younger years, he coached numerous youth baseball teams, always cherishing the memories and experiences with his players. He often fondly recalled his 13U team as the best group of kids he ever had the pleasure of coaching.
Ernie is survived by his loving family: his wife, Dreama Perdue of Myrtle Beach, SC; his son, Brian K. Perdue and daughter-in-law, Kendra; his granddaughter, Emily Levine and her husband, Brandon; his grandson, Adam Perdue; his sisters, Sue Phillips and her husband, Jerry, of Scarborough, WV, Shirley Blackburn of Oak Hill, WV, and Norma Jordan of Oak Hill, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Perdue, Jack Perdue, Curt Perdue, and Roger Perdue, and his sister, Phyllis Perdue.
Ernie's life was enriched by many close family and friends, including Jamie Byers, Savannah Byers-Cook, and Haylee Byers, who cared for him over the last few years and became like a second family to him.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at High Lawn Funeral Home, 1435 Main St E, Oak Hill, WV 25901, beginning at 3 pm, with the service starting at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers, an organization that builds homes for first responders and disabled veterans, or to the Oak Hill Girls Softball team, both causes were close to Ernie's heart.
Ernie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of service, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
