Donald Gene Canterbury
Donald Gene Canterbury, 82, of Beaver, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House.
Born on May 9, 1937 in Rock Creek, WV, he was the youngest of eight children and the son of the late Rufus Canterbury and Minnie Scarbro Canterbury.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving companion of 25 years, Connie Ward; his daughter, Debbie Kraut and her husband, Kevin; his grandchildren who he was known as "Poppy", Christopher, Rachel, Gregory, Christian, Hannah, Lilly, Jason, Allie, Parker and Alyvia; great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald loved hunting and Blue Grass music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo. "Chicken Don" as he was well known as throughout our community as well as West Virginia as a breeder for game chicken. He had begun raising and breeding them since he was 10 years old. He loved and cherished all children around him.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Terry officiating. Burial will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
