Beckley - Betty Lou Mays, age 89, of Beckley, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV following a short illness.
Born on August 26, 1936 at Colcord, she was the daughter of the late George Booker Chambers and Venis Mae Sloan Chambers.
Mrs. Mays was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for many years, and served as a church hostess. She was a former cook at the 4-H Camp in Daniels, and was an avid baker. Her happy place was fishing at Flat Top Lake with her parents, and thoroughly enjoyed riding her mother around Flat Top Lake on a mini bike. Mrs. Mays was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Harold, and mother to her son Mike.
In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Harold Chambers.
Those survivors left to cherish her wonderful memory, include her husband of 66 years, Harold Edward Mays; her son Michael Mays and wife Kelly of Beckley; three grandchildren, Nicholas Mays and wife Holly of West Mansfield, OH, Kendra McGhee and husband Alex of Joint Air Force Base, New Jersey, and Jamie Dye of Parkersburg; great grandchildren, Kyla Dye, Scotte Mays, Asher McGhee, Molly Mays, Monroe Mays, and Jaxon McGhee. A sister Linda McAninch of Bloomington, IL; brother-in-law Robert Mays and wife Jeanette of Beaver. Multiple nieces and nephews, and a host of loving friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Betty L. Mays on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM, at Memorial Baptist Church, 1405 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV, with Rev. Ernest "Buddy" Calfee Jr., and Dr. James Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Mays, Alex McGhee, Jeff Yost, Arnold "Bo" Yost, Stewart Myers, and her son Michael Mays.
