William Roger Markham passed away on October 18, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV at the age of 74.
Roger is predeceased by his parents Wilma V. Painter and William P. Markham, sisters Julie Markham, Edna Ikemoto, brothers Billy Markham, Eugene Markham, "Jack" Markham, and Michael Markham.
Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years Nancy, his daughter Tammy Engel and her husband Steve; grandson Justin Funk; sisters Mary Dunbar, Barbara Krueger, Patricia Bell and sister-in-law Jerry Markham; loving nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Roger was born in Long Branch in 1942.
He joined the Army after graduating high school and served in the 101st Airborne division. Roger eventually returned to Pax, WV and worked as a driver for Peerless Meat Packing Company until he retired on disability at the age of 27 after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
Roger enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He also enjoyed reading, going to the movies, and had a soft spot for animals.
The visitation will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Dr, Beckley, WV from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22. A private burial is planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House or the Humane Society of Raleigh County.
