William "Bill" M. Church, 80, of Meadow Bridge, passed away at his home, Saturday, September 16, 2017, following a sudden illness.
Born February 20, 1937, in Meadow Bridge, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward and Grace Virginia Patterson Church.
Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator where he worked on the New River Gorge Bridge from beginning to end. He was very proud of that work. He was also very proud to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Presidential Honor Guard with both President Eisenhower and President John F. Kennedy. Bill was a 52 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #132. He was an avid bear hunter and enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 brother Norman and Clyde; and 2 sisters Mildred and Myrlie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Martha "Mickey" Rickmzn Church; 1 daughter Amanda Church of Roanoke, Virginia; 2 sons William E. Church and wife Heidi and Robert B. Church and wife Jennifer, all of Meadow Bridge; 3 brothers Stanley, Larry and wife Linda, all of Meadow Bridge and Doug and wife Pat of Loops Road; 3 sisters Doris Kirshvink of Hinton, Patty Church of Meadow Bridge, and Marion Rose Lipscomb and husband Jim of Mobile, Alabama; 3 granddaughters Amber Rankin, Katie Rankin, and Kristen Church; 1 great-grandson Broc Wooddall; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 21, in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville, with Pastor Robby Shorter officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 20, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Meadow Bridge United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations of sympathy be made to the Shriners' Hospitals for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
