Walter Edward Crews


Walter Edward Crews, age 81, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
Born on April 5, 1938 at Dixie, WV, he was the son of the late Thomas Milton Crews and Hilah Smith Crews.
Mr. Crews was a retired Biology teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School with 32 years of service. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Marshall University, and West Virginia University with a Masters in Biology.
He was an active member of Perry Memorial United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and photography. Mr. Crews loved God and his family and friends. When health permitted, he participated in all activities at the church. His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16, and according to Mr. Crews, "that summed it up".
In addition to his parents, Mr. Crews was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Robert Crews.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 55 years, Nancy Armentrout Crews; two children, Elizabeth Gail Brown and husband Stephen of Stafford, Virginia, and Joseph Crews and wife Ruthanna of Lincolnton, NC; five grandchildren, Michael and Madison Brown, Sarah, Joseph, and Anna Crews; a sister, Janet Jordan of Newton, NC; brother-in-law, Bob Armentrout and wife Mary of White Oak, brothers-in-law, Ralph and Charles Armentrout, both of Prince.
Funeral services will be conducted at Perry Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Scott Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at
Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Joe and Noah Guffy, Roy Meadows and Don Crook.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or Perry Memorial United Methodist Church in honor of Mr. Crews.

My sincere condolences to the family of my Crews! He taught me Biology at WWHS in 1973. I remember him as being a very kind and soft spoken man. We need more teachers like him.

Mr. Crews was a wonderful man!
Since he was in the Biology Dept. and I was in the English Dept., our paths didn’t cross every day, but he was always kind. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers.

Mr. Crews was an amazing teacher. He even made biology fun. I am indebted to him for giving me a great scientific base to take into real life! My sincerest condolences go out to the family.
