Virginia Belle (Cook) Smith, 95, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Wyoming Nursing and Rehab in New Richmond.
Born September 24, 1922 in Oceana, WV, she was the daughter of the late George Wayne Cook and Letah D. Chambers Cook.
Virginia was a lifelong member of Oceana United Methodist Church.
She retired after teaching Home Economics at Glen Rogers and Oceana High School for over thirty-five years. Throughout her career, she took numerous trips with FHA groups and was the keeper of the books for Wyoming County. She was a very active member of the community for many years. After retiring from teaching she continued her work on Smith farm, which she loved, and spent countless hours in her garden. Virginia was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a proud member of the Oceana High School Hall of Fame.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; two sons, Tommy and Doug; her brother, George Wayne Cook Jr; and a sister, Juna Harper.
Survivors include her son, Eric Smith and fiancée, Shonda Zastawniak of Oceana; her sister, Arlene Drake of Oceana; two grandchildren, Meghan and Wayne; five great-granddaughters; daughter-in-law, Christine Smith of TN; nephews, Bill and Arvin Drake; and niece, Becky.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Oceana United Methodist Church, the Rev. Ron Acord officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Friends may gather with the family 6-9 pm, Saturday, September 30, at Evans-Calfee Funeral Service, 1081 Cook Parkway, Oceana.
