Verlin's Story

Verlin Clita Crookshanks, 89, of Rupert, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, in the Meadow Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rainelle, following a short illness.
Born March 16, 1928, at Cornstalk, he was the son of the late Eskel and Janie Price Crookshanks.
Verlin worked for many years as a bus driver for Greenbrier County Schools and then retired as a mechanic for Greenbrier County Division of WV Department of Highways. Verlin enjoyed working on mowers; gardening, and canning.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Alma Belle Russell Crookshanks; one sister and one son.
Survivors include 2 sons Verlin Eskel Crookshanks of Rupert and Eugene Crookshanks; 1 daughter April Fulton and husband Robert of Rupert; 1 brother Zimary Crookshanks; 1 sister Violet Thomas and husband David; 4 grandchildren including Isaiah and Isabella Fulton; and 1 great-grandson Trevor Allen.
Friends may call from 1 - 2 p.m. Friday, January 19, at Smathers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Burns Cemetery at Kieffer.
