Vella Marie (Redden) Irick of Glen Fork went home peacefully October 31, 2017 at Bower's Hospice House, surrounded by her loved ones. Although she fought a long battle with cancer and other health issues, her love of life, faith in God and support from her family and friends allowed her 87 beautiful years on Earth.
Born March 31, 1930 in Wrights, WV, Vella loved spending time with the family, gardening, traveling, working in puzzle books and cooking delicious Sunday dinners for her family. Recently, she spent her days "porch sittin" with family and friends, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. She was an active member of Russell Missionary Baptist Church where she assisted with Vacation Bible School and Ladies Aid fundraisers, featuring her wonderful fried pies.
Vella is now eternally reunited with those gone before her including her parents, Clyde and Mae Redden; her husband of fifty-eight years, Andrew "Jack" Irick; three sons, Randy Ray, Ronald and Randall Irick; a grandson, Ronnie Lafferty, Jr.; two granddaughters, Angela Lafferty and Rosalee Irick; two sons-in-law, Robert McGraw and Dale Byars; and four siblings, Sybil, Pansy, Bud and Leatrice.
She leaves behind a multitude of loved ones, including six children: Lucy Lilly and husband, Ted of Prosperity, Norma McGraw of Glen Fork, Barbara Byars of Ravencliff, Roger Irick and wife, Cathy of Glen Fork, Jackie Irick and wife, Gaye of Glen Fork and Brenda Irick and Carie of Clear Fork. She is also survived by her sister, Inez Petti of White Oak; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 1pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Evans-Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, 1081 Cook Parkway, Oceana, with the Rev. Lucian Brown and Gene Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Fork Community Cemetery. Friends may gather with the family 5pm - 8pm, Friday, November 3, at the funeral home.
