Tony's Story

Ton 'Sam' aka "Coach" Putinsky, 86, of Scott Depot, went home to be with the Lord and all of his family and friends that went before him on October 31, 2017.
Sam was born April 26, 1931 to Tony and Ora (Casey) Putinsky.
He was a 1949 graduate of Marsh Fork High School. During his senior year he would go to school during the day and work in the coal mines at night.
In 1950 Sam joined the U.S. Navy and stayed until 1954. He was a Catapult Crewman that served on the Essex during the Korean War. This is the same ship that Osama Bin Laden was buried at sea from. After being discharged from the Navy, Sam enrolled at Morris Harvey College where he earned a B.S. degree in education.
In 1958, Sam started his teaching and coaching career at Sherman High School. In 1971, he went to Marsh Fork Junior High School and retired with 31 years of dedicating his life to the children that he taught and coached.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nina (Stamper), brothers, William and Numan and sisters, Princess and Elizabeth.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Toni Coon of Comfort; grandson, Adam (Cecily) of Meadow Bridge and granddaughter, Courtney of Comfort; great grandson, Easton. His step-family who he loved just like his own: Diana Wright, Jill (Michael) McCormick of Bloomingrose, Sean (Christy) of Concord, NC. Grandchildren: Josh Wright, Cody Huffman, Jeremy Wright, Anthony Jarrell, Gabe Wright; great grandchildren, Atia and Kobi Wright, Alex and Kameron Jarrell.
Memorial service will be 3 pm Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Whitesville First Baptist Church in Whitesville.
The visitation will be two hours before the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hubbard Hospice House or the church of your choice.
Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, WV, is in charge of the arrangements.
