After a valiant fight with cancer, Tammy Radford, passed away on Monday, the 3rd of December 2018. Tammy was born in Beckley, WV on the 20th of February 1963 and was the oldest of Elton and Christine Claypool's three daughters. A loving wife, mother, sister and daughter, Tammy found eternal peace at home surrounded by her family who loved and cared for her. She attended Beckley College in WV and worked at the Beckley YMCA while serving as a member of the Junior League. After reconnecting at their ten year high school reunion and sharing a fairytale romance, Tammy married Michael Radford on May 16, 1992 and moved to Charlotte, NC. Tammy and Michael built a wonderful life in Charlotte, perfect companions in their love and endless energy approaching life. Tammy worked at the Uptown YMCA of Charlotte until she became a mother to Michael and Nicholas beginning the greatest journey of her life. She loved to support Michael and Nicholas in their passions on the field, in the classroom and beyond. Whether volunteering in the classroom or serving as President of the Booster's Club Tammy was an active volunteer at Charlotte Country Day School. She loved to travel with her husband and boys; her favorite times were spent skiing in Colorado and exploring the streets of London. With a camera always in hand she was passionate about capturing wonderful memories for the family to cherish. Tammy loved working in her garden, tending her roses and flowers. She was an avid birdwatcher and animal lover. She had a heart for animals that needed a home. Her dogs Ellie and Bailey and cats Gizmo, Red and Blue brought her much comfort. Tammy kept a beautiful home always filled with fresh flowers and delicious food. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and her home was the center of family gatherings. Tammy loved and was loved by her close family. She is survived by her husband, Michael Radford, children: Michael II and Nicholas Radford; mother, Christine Claypool, sister Pam Barton, husband Bob and their son Billy; sister, Christy Majors and her husband, Mark all of Charlotte. She shared special relationships with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Elton Claypool, maternal grandparents, Clark and Effie Higginbotham, paternal grandparents, Herbert and Essie Claypool. The family is eternally grateful for the care and support of Dr. Antoinette Tan at the Levine Cancer Center, Dr. Lisa Nanovic of Prospective Health and Wellness and their numerous team members. The service celebrating Tammy's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, the 7th of December 2018 in the Historic Morehead Street Chapel of Ellington Funeral Services ,727 E Morehead Street Charlotte, with Pastor Bob Barton, Tammy's brother-in-law, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Private burial will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
