Ronald's Story

Ronald Leon Short, 70, of Clear Fork, went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2017.
Leon was born March 27, 1947.
He joined the US Army in 1965. After proudly serving during the Vietnam War, he came home and made a career as a West Virginia Coal Miner.
More importantly, Leon was a devoted husband to his wife of fifty-one years, a dedicated father to his four sons and a doting grandfather to his sixteen grandchildren. He was a loyal member of Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church, always waiting to greet everyone at the door with his contagious smile.
He loved to hunt, fish, and hold his grandbabies.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Short Jr. and Margaret Gregory Short; his father-in-law, William Toler; and his great-grandson, Thias Crookshanks.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-one years, Minnie Short and four sons: Bobby Short and wife, Candy, Ronald Short Jr. and wife, Lisa and Kevin Short and wife, Tiffany and William "Logan" Short.
Leon also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Tristan and wife, Chancley, Nathan and wife, Kerri, Stephanie, Jenny, Hannah, Josie, Haley, Jacob, Abby, Maddie and Eli. As well as five great-grandchildren: Trisley, Mason, Chesley. Gwenn and Grayson.
Also surviving his seven siblings: Timmy and Jane Short, Dickie and Karen Short, Eddie Short and Rebecca Brown, Phyllis and JB Cook, Charlotte and Tommy Brown, Freda and Eddie Aliff, and Francis and John Conley. Also, his mother-in-law, Celia Toler and sisters-in-law, Mary and Alfred Harvey, Glenna Taylor, and Letha and Darrell Cline. As well as a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church, the Rev. Erwin Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful View Cemetery, Toler's Farm. Friends may gather with the family 6-9pm Friday, October 13 at Evans-Calfee Funeral Service, 1081 Cook Parkway, Oceana.
Pallbearers will be his son, Logan; grandsons: Tristan, Nathan, and Jacob; and Adam Harvey and William "Bub" Talbert. Leon's brothers will serve as honorable pallbearers.
