Robert Eugene Lilly, age 83, of Coal City, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Born on July 22, 1934 in Coal City, he was the son of the late Everett Jackson Lilly and Myrtha Blanch Keffer Lilly.
Mr. Lilly was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Air Force where he served his country for 25 years. In the Air Force, he served as a material storage/distribution superintendent, and had received the Air Force Commendation Medal twice, in 1967 and 1977. Mr. Lilly also received The Metitorious Service Medal and numerous other medals and awards.
He later retired as a school bus driver for the Raleigh County Board of Education. "Bob" was a member of Mountain Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Dunns, WV for many years, where he served the church as song leader. He also was a member of the Mountain Creek Gospel Singers. Presently, he was a member of Beckley Church of God on South Kanawha Street in Beckley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Osburn Lilly, Fred Lilly, Orlen Lilly, Rev. Clayton Lilly, Dewey Lilly, Kathryn Lilly Worley Jarrell, Paula Lilly Todaro, Rev. Clemma Lilly Fuson Pugh, Mary Louise Ward and Norma Lilly Meadows.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Virginia Lilly; children, Teresa Anne McClanahan and husband, Bill of Stanaford Acres, Carl Eugene Lilly and wife, Carol Ann Meadows Lilly of Crab Orchard, and Earl Jay Lilly and wife, Karen of Beckley; siblings, Emogene Lilly White and husband, Earl of Gardendale, Alabama, and Paul Lilly of Coal City; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11 AM with Bishop F. D. Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery in Coal City. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
