Robert's Story

Robert "Bob" Hal Hardman, 88, of Oak Hill, passed away at 3:27 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 following a brief stay in the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
He was born in Ritchie County, WV on March 28, 1929, a son of the late Bruce Hardman and Velma Blye Davisson Hardman.
On October 21, 1950 he married his college sweetheart, Betty Lou Simmons Hardman, who will miss him dearly after 67 years of marriage.
His generous, faithful spirit will be carried on by his two children: Dr. Pamela Sue Hardman and husband, Michael F. Murray, of Berea, OH, and Curtis Hal Hardman and wife, Natalie, of Punta Gorda FL; two grandchildren: Jonathan H. Hardman and Andrew H. Hardman of Athens, WV; four siblings: James Russell Hardman of East Sparta, OH, Eleanor Lucille "Peg" Baltzly of Massillon, OH, George V. Hardman of Newcomerstown, OH, and Raymond Hardman and wife, Dorothy, of Indian Town, FL; sister-in-law, Opal Mae Hardman of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward L. Hardman.
Bob was an honored veteran of the United States Marine Corps. having served during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Glenville State College, then his Masters Degree in Education Administration from West Virginia University. He was employed as a teacher and Principal for the Ritchie County BOE and Jefferson County BOE, and as a Principal and an Assistant Superintendent for the Gilmer County BOE where he retired with several years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0200 in Charleston, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and the Charles Town First Baptist Church and Glenville First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. In his free time, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and canning his harvest. As a talented musician, he played guitar, keyboard, and harmonica, and especially enjoyed country music.
Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 11 a.m. - 12 noon on Friday, January 12, 2018. Funeral Services will follow at 12 noon from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps. And the Lewis County Honor Guard.
