Peggy Jean Sparacino

January 04, 1949 - August 05, 2018

Peggy Jean Sparacino Peggy Jean Sparacino, 69, of Beckley, passed away Sunday Aug. 5, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 4, 1949 in Pax, W.Va., to the late Oscar and Jessie Deal.
Like many, Peggy left West Virginia, a few times, in fact, testing the waters in California, Colorado and Virginia. But, like most, she returned to her native mountain state where she raised her two children, Michael and Jennifer.
Her oldest sister, Carolyn, played a part in several of Peggy's moves as it was sometimes said, "wherever Carol is Peggy is," and vice versa.
Like her mother and sister Nancy, Peggy loved to watch "Wheel of Fortune," and those who knew her best knew better than to call her between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Her son, Mike often opted instead to drive up to watch with her and now solves puzzles like a champ.
She was known for her spaghetti, and her sauce brought people in from miles around.
Peggy was a people person and loved to be out and about. In fact, her kids' friends often said their mom was cooler than they were.
She loved music, dancing and singing along as Wayne, her companion of 28 years, played on his guitar.
Peggy was the lead singer of Wayne's band.
In addition to her parents, Peggy joined her brother Jeffrey Ellis Deal, and her sister Nancy Deniese James in Heaven.
Left to cherish her memory are companion and caregiver Wayne Hanna, of Beckley, son Michael Sparacino (Christina Thompson) of Beaver, W.Va.; daughter Jennifer Sparacino Ellison (Ron) of Monroe, Ga.; grandchildren Katelyn Sparacino, of Beckley, W.Va., Joseph Sparacino, of Montgomery, W.Va., USMC Lance Corporal Isaac Ellison of Twentynine Palms, California, and Nicholas and Emaleigh Ellison of Monroe, Ga. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters Carolyn Davis (James), of Mabscott, W.Va., and Kathy Morris (Scott), of Beckley, W.Va.; Valarie Betts (Robert) and daughter Elizabeth, of Wilmington, N.C.; sister-in-law Tally Deal, of Bluefield, Va.; special cousin and caregiver Sheree Hunt, of Maple Fork, W.Va., and many loving extended family members and close friends.
Peggy was first diagnosed with cancer in 2005, and had a decade cancer-free before it came back with a vengeance in early 2016.
She fought with everything she had for 2 ½ years, refusing to go on anyone's timeline but her own. But that was Peggy.
She was notoriously and fashionably late as her children say she never planned anything before "noon:30."
"Anyone who ever knew her knew she slept late and she was always late," her daughter Jenny says.
Even in the end, as her family gathered around in what was thought to be her final hours, Peggy instead stayed with them for days.
Late, as always, but surrounded by love.
Upon her wishes, Peggy has been cremated.
A celebration of life will take place at Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at West Wind Farm at 165 Shrewsberry Lane in Daniels.
Family and friends are invited to bring stories, laughs and instruments as they are welcome to share memories of Peggy. Guests are also asked to bring chairs.
