Mary Tracy Lay, age 100 years and four days, formerly of Oceana, WV, passed away at the home of her daughter, Antonia "Toni" Lopez of Beckley on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.
Born on February 2, 1918, in Eckman, WV, she was the daughter of the late Rocco Anthony Scoleri and Concetta Galimi Scoleri.
Mrs. Lay began a career just after high school at Peerless Coal Company at Vivian, WV, as a bookkeeper and was the co-owner and operator with her husband, Charles Lee Lay, of Oceana Gulf, and later Lays/Incorporated for 45 years.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pineville and after moving to Beckley, for the past 17 years, was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill, WV. Mrs. Lay enjoyed working and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Lay; by brothers, Sam, Joseph, Phillip and a sister, Carmella.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include children, Antonia "Toni" Lopez, and husband, Manuel of Beckley, Charles Michael Lay and wife, Jeanne of Valdosta, Georgia; her "red headed stepchild", Connie Hammontree of Fayetteville, WV; grandchildren, Chrystal Craft and husband, Mark, Bruce Lopez and wife, Arlene, Michael Jason Lay and wife, Brandi, and Shelley Groff and husband, Christopher; ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive.
The family extends special thanks to Tammy Ridenour, Connie O'Neal and Cindy Bragg, of Hospice of Southern WV, and also Cindy O'Neal for their help during the illness of Mrs. Lay.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, WV, on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 11 AM with Father F.A. Arokriadass as the Celebrant. A Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell, WV. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to the services on Friday.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
