With a sad and heavy heart, the family of Martha Mae Crookshanks Gipson, 63, announces she passed away Thursday, Oct 12, 2017, at home surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 5, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Leeson David Crookshanks and Christine Carr Crookshanks. She attended the Sturgeon Branch Baptist Church and Chestnut Knob Christian Church and others. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma.
Martha worked 24 years at Pizza Hut in Rainelle, and later at J&S Restaurant, and Kroger. She also helped at the Voting Polls. For several years she has excelled at raising funds for the Fayette County "Shop With A Cop" program.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Garland "Bus" Gipson and Mary Gipson, brother-in-law, Teddy Claypool, nephew, Mason Claypool, and her grandparents, Lee and Nellie Sims Crookshanks and Arthur "Gordon" and Edith McGuire Carr.
Surviviors include her loving husband of 44 years, Richard G. Gipson; her children, Christine (Travis) Puffenbarger, Richie Gipson, and Ashley (Nick) Wilson; her grandson, Layne Puffenbarger and granddaughter, Isabella Wilson; her sisters and brothers, Kathy Cox (John), Audrey Claypool, David Crookshanks (Jeanne), Pamela Arrington (Scott), Timmy Crookshanks, Millie Callsion (Kenny), and Randy Crookshanks (Lisa).
The family will receive friends from 1pm - 3pm Monday, Oct 16, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc. Martha had requested a cremation afterwards. She knew these temporary, biodegradable bodies for our souls soon pass away; but at the end, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
