Lonnie's Story

Text size

On Dec. 30, 2017, we lost our beloved father, brother, and friend, Lonnie Willard Gunnoe, Jr. He passed away from a sudden illness at his home in Danese.
Born on Oct. 7, 1948, at Clifftop, he was the son of the late Lonnie Willard Gunnoe, Sr., and the late Virginia Helen Lester Gunnoe. Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Margarette Gunnoe.
Those left to cherish his memories are: his children, Lonnie (Pete) Willard Gunnoe, III, Roberta (Robin) Lynn Gunnoe Darnell, Virginia (Jenny) Helen Gunnoe, and Randy Wayne Gunnoe; grandchildren, James Aaron Gilkerson, Gabriel Isaac Dixon, Danielle Elizabeth Gunnoe, James Shanklin Gilkerson, Jr., Makayla Faith Gunnoe, Ryan Shawn Friend, and Bentley Wayne Gunnoe; and a great-granddaughter, Kayden Brooke Gilkerson.
Also left to cherish his memories are his brothers and sister, Donald and wife Judy Berry of Columbus, OH, Jerry and wife Carol Berry of Prosperity, Roger and wife Rita Gunnoe of Danese, Douglas and wife Diane Gunnoe of Danese, Curtis and wife Cheryl Gunnoe of Beckley, David and wife Kathy Gunnoe of San Antonio, TX, and Sheila and husband Kenny Blair of Danese. Lonnie also had many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who also feel a great loss.
Lonnie was a graduate of Nuttall High School, a member of Laurel Lodge No. 104 A. F. & A. M. of Danese, and a retired coal miner. He was always a great provider for his family, and was always known for his kind, generous heart for helping people. He never met a stranger. We have truly lost a wonderful man. It brings us comfort to know that his broken heart for his wife is no longer broken. May they dance with the angels. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." -Matthew 5:8.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Milburn Pack officiating. Burial will follow in the Gunnoe Cemetery, Danese.
Friends may call Wednesday at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the funeral.
