Lois "Jean" Cook passed peacefully from this life on February 25, 2018 at Bower's Hospice House In Beckley.
Born in Martin County, Kentucky, on December 9th, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Stella Nichols Maynard.
She enjoyed working in retail as she loved people. She was a manager for George's Fashions and also worked at Hallmark. Although she loved cooking, reading and hiking, she especially enjoyed gardening as her favorite pastime. She grew vegetables and beautiful flowers that she mostly gave away to family and friends.
However, of all of her pastimes, the role she cherished most in life was that of being a mother and grandmother. This is what truly brought her joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Henry E. Cook; sisters, Nora L. Brunty, Anna M. Lester, and Bonnie J. Koutsunis; brothers, Elmer Maynard and Charles E. Maynard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Henry E. Cook Jr. and wife Dianne Cook of Piney Flats, Tennessee; daughter Melinda L. Cook of Beckley; grandson, Henry E. "Tripp" Cook III and wife Bethany of Vinton, Virginia; granddaughter, Ashlie Epling and husband Matthew Epling of Gray, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Henry E. Cook IV, Sam Cook, Ashlyn and Colton Epling; sister, Sandra Trent and husband Harold of Beaver, West Virginia; brothers , Leo Maynard of Jesse, WV and Dalley Maynard and wife Pam of Mullens, WV; a special niece and nephew, Melissa and Harold Trent Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM, at the Melton Mortuary Chapel in Beckley. The family will be receiving friends two hours prior to the service. Jean's brother, the Rev. Dalley Maynard will be conducting the service. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.
In honor of Jean, contributions may be made to Bower's Hospice House.
