Jewell Lynette Blackburn


Jewell Lynette Blackburn, 72, of Sophia, WV formerly of Pineville, WV departed this life unexpectedly at home on January 13, 2019. She was born on May 14, 1946 at her family home in Helen, WV. Jewell graduated from Mark Twain High School in 1964. She began a career with WV Department of Health and Human Resources as a Social Worker in 1973. Jewell retired on August 31, 2006 after 33 years of service. Her most precious possession was her family and her greatest accomplishment in life was her son, Norman "Roc" Blackburn and granddaughter, Kayli Blackburn. Jewell loved animals, especially her cats. Her kindness and generosity was known to all, endearing her to all that came to know her. She was a friendly, caring and hardworking individual.
Jewell was preceded in death by her mother and father, Virginia Mae Whitt Blackburn and Clyde Blackburn along with her brother Rick Blackburn. Those left to cherish her memory include her son Norman "Roc" Blackburn and wife Anita, her granddaughter Kayli Blackburn, brothers and sisters, Howard Blackburn and wife Nancy, David "Frog" Blackburn and wife Barbara, Freda Feamster, Brenda Haley, Lana Wood and husband Gerald, Janet Andrico and husband Ted, Rick Blackburn's wife Shirley Blackburn, several nieces and nephews, her cherished lifelong best friend Donna Belcher and Jewell's beloved cat Sierra Rose. The family will receive friends, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 2pm. Burial services will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel at 1925 Harper Road, Beckley, WV.
