Jane's Story

Jane Audrey Murdock, 87, of Oak Hill, passed quietly away in the early morning hours of December 3, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House surrounded by all her children and grandchildren.
Born May 21, 1930 at Whipple, WV she was the youngest child of John and Carrie Racer Steskla.
Jane was a member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Oak Hill where she had been active in past years in their women's work. She had been an avid gardener, holding various offices in area garden clubs as well as the Fayette Co. Garden Council. Former 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, Girl Scout area director, member and president of Oak Hill Business and Professional Women's Club, as well as active member of the Red Hat Society and White Oak Chapter of the National Railroad Society. She worked tirelessly for many years with the Oak Hill/Collins High Alumni Assoc. and was the bookkeeper for the family business of W. R. Murdock & Sons Hydraulic Service. In 2004 she was voted Oak Hill's Citizen of the Year.
Jane was preceded into heaven by her husband of 53 years, W. Ray Murdock Jr. as well as her parents, brothers Louie "Mike" and Johnny Steskla, sister Margaret Thomas and son-in-law Rick Stover.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Susan and Edward Craun, W. Ray III and Paula Murdock, and Beth and John Richards; grandchildren Stacy & Stewart Jones, Audrey and Damien Saylor, Travis Stover, Lesley and Chris Jarvis, W. Ray IV and Megan Murdock, Heather and Jody Davis, and Jason and Jessica Craun, six great-grandchildren, special "daughter" Kaye Ballard and a host of other family members.
The family wishes to thank Kathy Treadway and Nancy Bragg for their many years of care to both Jane and Ray as well as the staff of Dr. Herbert Oye and the 4th floor nursing staff of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A Celebration of Jane's life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, Dec. 7th in the chapel of High Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Southern WV, 454 Cranberry Dr. Beckley, WV 25801.
