James Marion Richmond, 73, of Keatley Springs, died Tuesday November 7, 2017, at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital, following a short illness.
Born March 26, 1944, at Hix, he was the son of the late George Estel and Bethal Calvert Richmond.
Mr. Richmond was retired from the maintenance department and was also a truck driver for the Summers County Board of Education. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
James enjoyed banjo playing and bluegrass music. He was also a craftsman and made musical instruments.
He was a member of the Summers County Retired School Employees, and was a lifelong resident of Summers County.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, one brother, Bobby Richmond and three sisters, Bunny Cyrus, Debbie Richmond and Betty Lou Richmond.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jo Ann Gill Richmond. One son, Roy Richmond and wife Kristi of Cypress, TX. One daughter, Sharon Long and companion Dan Nuckols of White Sulphur Springs, WV. Four brothers, Gene Richmond and wife Peggy of Richmond, VA, Freddie Richmond and wife Connie of Farmville, VA, Harold Richmond and wife Mona of Hinton and Danny Richmond and wife Flora Mae of Upland. Two sisters, Gloria Grimmett of Upland and Freda Pennington of Princeton. Six grandchildren, Clara and Lillian Long, Arden Nuckols, and Molly, Wesley and Erin Richmond.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017, at Upland Cemetery near Hinton, with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. There will be no public visitation. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery on Friday.
