Herbert's Story

Text size

Herbert Ray Cadle, 88, of Grassy Meadows, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 28, 2017, in the Peyton Hospice House at Fairlea following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 21, 1929, at Grassy Meadows, he was the son of the late Evert and Verena Cooper Cadle.
Ray was the last of his siblings and the last of his generation of the Elijah Green Cadle family, who settled in Greenbrier County in 1915. Ray lived in Beckley during the '50s, working for W.C. Rogers Plumbing. He moved his family to Northern Virginia for a number of years, coming back home in 1977. He built their home on a tract of the old home place and formed Cadle Services Contracting and also going into his ministry for the Lord. He served at Little Creek Baptist Church on Sims Mountain, Rainelle, and at West Point Baptist Church, Asbury. In 1985, a stroke retired him from his ministry and his work. Ray loved the Lord, family, and doing good work. Even after the stroke, he opened a tract of land on his property known as Cadle Woods. While in Virginia, Ray succeeded in his trade, working for Marumsco Plumbing and Heating.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by all of his siblings Esta Hutsenpiller (Fred), Earl Cadle (Gloria), Homer Cadle (Vena), Thelma Livesay (Lawrence), Myrtle Mitchell (Champ), James Cadle, and his daughter-in-law Deborah Ann (Our Girl) Cadle.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 67 years Loretta Fisher Cadle; his loving son Ken of Dawson; 2 sisters-in-law Gloria Cadle Findley of Moses Lake, Washington, and Llwellyn Cadle of Dawson; and a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, in the Maude Chapel United Methodist Church at Grassy Meadows with Pastor Bob Berchtold officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to the Maude Chapel Cemetery Fund, 5027 Grassy Meadows Road, Dawson, WV 24910.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 12 - 1 p.m. at the church.
