Guardenia Faith Fox Adkins, age 84, (but claimed to be 29!), of Daniels, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a short illness.
Born on August 26, 1934 at Red Springs, she was the daughter of the late Okey Fox and Nellie Boyd Fox.
Survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James 'Kenneth' Adkins; daughters, Kay Mayberry, Karen Roberts and husband Jerry, Judy 'Karla' Muench and husband Don, Kathy Goodwin and husband David, Kenny Adkins and wife Carolyn; grandsons, Patrick Senior, Kevin Senior, Dustin Roberts, James Adkins, Brian Adkins; granddaughters, Trisha Goodnough, Kristy Suriano, Charlotte Mayberry, Jessica Gill, Dana Harmon, Melissa Freidus and families, and 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd Fox, Wayne Fox; sisters, Ellen Akers, Dora Price, Carolyn Fox and families, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, long-time neighbors and friends including her best friend, Janie DeLung, childhood friend, Wilma Martin and her friends at TOPS.
Preceded in death by her parents, Okey & Nellie Fox; beloved sisters, Irene Harrah, Liz Vallier and great granddaughter, Delaney Roberts.
Guardenia, lovingly known as "Dean", loved to spend time with family, cook, travel, garden, canning and follow in the tradition of her mother Nellie making quilts. She loved a good water fight. One of her favorite things was seeing family coming in for a visit where she would strive to cook their favorite foods. Her favorite food was pizza, especially Chicago pizza.
Dean grew up in Red Springs, WV and lived for many years in Chicago, where she worked for Bell & Howell & Ditto before returning to WV in 1976. She worked at Peerless Packing in Beaver, WV for many years until the business closed at which time, she retired and spent time traveling with the love of her life across the United States in an 18-wheeler.
Guardenia was always there for any family or friend in need whether you needed a hug or a good talking to.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel at 11 a.m., with Pastor George Wood officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park at Oak Hill. Friends may visit with the family from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
