Frederick Alexander Walker, age 66, of Union, passed away on Sunday, October 15th, 2017.
Fred was born at Ronceverte, WV, June 28, 1951, the son of the late Harry Lee Sr. and Norma Jean Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Scott Walker.
He was raised in Union, WV, growing up on Locust Lane Farm where he developed his lifelong love of farming. He graduated from Union High School in 1969 where he excelled at football, baseball, and basketball. Shortly after high school he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1972 to 1976. After his service he returned to Monroe County where he fulfilled his dream of owning a dairy farm and purchased FAW Valley Farm located on Willow Bend Road in Union, where he lived for 37 years raising Registered Holsteins. Fred was also a member of the Union United Methodist Church.
Fred had a passion for many things including all sports especially his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, Duke Basketball, and the James Monroe Mavericks particularly his State Champion Lady Maverick basketball teams. He loved music, dancing, and laughing with friends and family.
Left to carry on his memory are his wife of 43 years, Brenda Bailey Walker; his three daughters, who made him so proud, and son-in-laws; Kim Estep and husband, Jeff of Lewisburg, Lori Castillo of Union; and Shari Helvey and her husband, John of Peterstown; and his four grandchildren, Lakyn, Xander, Ada, and Walker whom he adored; Harry Lee Walker Jr. and wife, Linda of Charlottesville, Va., Jeff Walker and his wife, Jennifer of Union, Trish Echols and her husband Steve of Keenan, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Walker of Union; 2 step-grandchildren. Sidnie and Sara Estep of Proctorville, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held 11 am. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with the Rev. Frank Naglic officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Union with Military Honors provided by the US Marine Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5pm. to 8 pm. Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Frederick A. Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund at the First National Bank of Peterstown, 380 Market St., Peterstown, WV 24963, ?which will honor special students graduating from James Monroe High School that Fred would want to help in their future endeavors.
