Elzia Earnest Gwinn, 83, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at home following a long illness.
Born February 2, 1936, in Summers County, he was the son of Gilbert David and Georgia Vandall Gwinn.
Elzia worked the coal mines for 36 years, and served as a lay minister for the Church of Christ from 1974 - 2012. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, driving, and showing his Zimmer. He was a simple man who loved and lived life to its fullest and was admired by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 4 brothers Lovell, Gilmer, Eugene and Lowell Gwinn; and 7 sisters Christina Gwinn, Stacy Ennis, Faye Adkins, Arthenia Heaster, Daphene Dixon, Gath-Lee Lafferty, and Georgette Harrah.
Survivors include his beloved wife Louise Slayton Gwinn; 2 sons Earnest Gwinn (Sue) of Meadow Bridge and Randal Gwinn (Madonna) of Hillsville, Virginia; 1 grandson Jeremy Gwinn (Jami) of Ona; 1 granddaughter Megan Gwinn (Travis Campbell) of Meadow Bridge; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, at Smathers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the David Gwinn Cemetery at Meadow Bridge.
Friends may call from 12 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
