Elmer's Story

CW4 (Chief Warrant Officer 4) Elmer "LeRoy" Harrell of Edmond, WV, passed away September 19, 2017, peacefully at home after a short illness. He was born in Kingston, WV, on September 17, 1934. He is preceded in death by: Inge, his wife of fifty-nine years, his parents Elmer and Luella Beaver Harrell and a sister, Carroll Fish. LeRoy was a long-time member of the Lookout Baptist Church.
In 1953 he joined the Army Reserves and in 1957 he went active duty with the Army stationed in Hanau, Germany, where he met Inge Siebert, his German fraulein. They were married in 1958 in Frankfurt, Germany. He returned home later that year with his bride to Lookout, WV. LeRoy resumed his military career in the Army Reserves with the 811th Ordnance Company in Rainelle, WV. He retired from the Reserves in 1994 with 41 years of dedicated military service.
In 1960 he acquired Harrell's Farm Supply, a Southern States privately owned franchise, in Lookout, WV, from his father. He and Inge ran the store for 36 years. When he retired in 1996, his son Steven acquired the store from him, making it a family owned business for three generations. He was President of the Nuttall Rod and Gun Club and the Meadow River Wildlife Club.
He is survived by his four children: Deborah Wise of Morgantown, Teresa Martin (Howard) of Morgantown, Cynthia Hawley (Dennis) of Charleston and Steven Harrell of Lookout. LeRoy had seven grandchildren: Candice Redd (Julian), Amy, Jakob, Samuel, Megan, and Kimberly, all of Morgantown, and Jesse of Charleston, four great grandchildren Lilyan, Josephine, Julian Jr. and Noah of Morgantown. He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley McDaniel Callison, Brenda Bowen, Helen McCranie, Lloyd Harrell, Herbert Harrell and Hilbert Harrell. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great and great great nieces and nephews. His sense of family history was extremely important to him.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 2 PM at the Lookout Baptist Church in Lookout, with Pastor Daniel Bennett officiating Burial will follow in the Jeanette Cemetery at Lookout. Friends may call at the church 1 PM until service time Saturday.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Southern WV; especially Cindy, Connie, Tammy and Sandra for the loving care and compassion they provided in our greatest time of need.
