Douglas's Story

Douglas M. Ayers, known by friends as "Boobie," passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the age of 66, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 16, 1951, he was the son of the late Albert Andrew Ayers and Melva Frances Altice Ayers.
Douglas enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, gardening, playing poker, and spending time with his grandchildren. His most accomplished and proud moments include raising five children, and working in the coal mines for 34 years. He was a tireless worker who dedicated his life to his children and anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike, Louie, Tootie, and Cumbo; and by sisters Leona and Daisy.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include a son, Doug Ayers and his companion Nikki Brady of Martinsburg, WV, four daughters: Jamie (Ayers) Chamberlain and husband Jason of Tower City, Pennsylvania, Donna (Ayers) Dickens of Glen Daniel, WV, Melva Ayers and Jeff Akers of Hurricane, WV, and Sunnie Ayers and companion Brandon White of Coal City, WV. Brothers: Frank Ayers of Coal City, WV, Bill Ayers of Odd, WV, Roy Lee Ayers of Chicago, Illinois, and Worley Ayers of McDowell County. Sisters: Ethel Hooper of Shady Spring, WV, and Melva Hylton of Coal City. A special niece, Dreama Meadows, and two special friends, Mike Hatcher and Robert "Blue" Eugene Wall. Thirteen grandchildren, and a beloved dog "Baby Girl."
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 1 PM with Rev. Charlie Bolen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
