David's Story

David William Nelson, 68 years of age, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 17, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston. He was born on April 2, 1949 in Logan, WV, son of the late George Nelson, Jr. and Elsie Margaret Thompson Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was a hard and dedicated worker who had a passion to mine coal and enjoyed gardening. He was very proud of his patented belt monitor for the coal mines. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play softball, volleyball and cheerleading. He was a member of Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, George Nelson, Jr. and Elsie Margaret Thompson Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Vicki Gills Nelson; his daughters, Arista Jean Wise and Christina Margaret Reed; his son, Dustin William Nelson and his fiancé, Maxine Kelley; his grandchildren, Caitlin Jean Wise, Gracie Jane Wise, Harleigh Cheyenne Reed, Samantha Jo Green and her husband, Adam, Nikki Wise and Mary Reed; his great-grandchildren, Zane Green, Axton Green and Emma Wise; and his brother, George W. Nelson.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Mitchem officiating. A graveside service will follow the service in the Garden of Prayer in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers honoring Mr. Nelson are Doug Black, Brian Black, Christopher Nelson, Gary Blankenship, Chris Nelson, Mark Nelson and Michael Howerton.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 456 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801; www.hospiceofsouthernwv.org.
