"Coach" Antonio's Story
"Coach" Antonio Castanon, Jr., age 79, of Coal City, WV, unexpectedly departed this life on Friday, December 22, 2017. Born on July 11, 1938, in East Gulf, WV, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria Castanon.
Tony was a retired coach and school teacher for the Raleigh County Board of Education. He made a lifelong career coaching and teaching at Stoco and Independence High Schools, impacting many young lives along the way.
Tony was a graduate of Stoco High School. While at Stoco, he earned a scholarship to Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, where he achieved his teaching degree and All-American Honors as a football player.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Patty Lilly Castanon, his son, William Joseph-Pete Castanon, his great grandson Aiden Bryce Coalson, and his great granddaughter Caydence Castanon. Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Antoinette Erickson and husband Ray, of Glen Morgan; a son, Steve Castanon and wife Beverley, of Coal City; a daughter-in-law, Samantha Gillenwater Castanon, of Coal City, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of special family members and close friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose & Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gordon Ross officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
