AUSTIN, TX - Almeta Boothe Fridley of Austin, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the age of 87.
Born April 12, 1930 in Oak Hill, West Virginia, to parents Delbert Lamar Boothe and Georgia Mae Tredway.
Almeta attended Fayette County schools and graduated from Mount Hope High School.
Almeta married Richard Fridley in 1952, residing first in Beckley, then Charleston, before moving to Montgomery County, Maryland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Almeta worked at the C&P Telephone Co regional headquarters and was one of only a few women involved in the computerization efforts and was an early programmer. After retirement, she moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to family.
Almeta is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and her brother, Frank Crum.
Almeta is survived by her children, Marsha Kocurek and Mary, David, Robert and Marlene Fridley; her four grandchildren, John, Caitlin, Kimberly and Kristen Kocurek; as well as a sister-in-law, niece, nephew and numerous cousins.
Services will be private. The family is grateful for condolences, but declines flowers and suggests donations to a literacy charity.
